day 9: hiking on lummi island, back to seattle

The next morning at the Willows Inn...breakfast. Which unfortunately was a slight fiasco because somehow, despite the very-organized and efficient service, the morning staff didn't realize we never got our food. So, several cups of coffee later...

...the kitchen quickly fired up and we got our meal. Eggs with hollandaise sauce and salmon, smashed potatoes, zucchini bread and fruit. Delicious, but unfortunately slightly cold.

Off to Nettles Farm, where the restaurant gets many of its ingredients.

I eat you.

Glorious kale! I eat you, too.

Mmm...I don't eat. Ominous hole!

Quickly! To the chicken coop!

Chickens are good times...

...because they like to run at top speeds, for no apparent reason.

And they like to plop down in the middle of the path. Can't you see this is a walkway?

But they lay pretty blue eggs.

And don glorious feathers.

Stay away from me, sunflowers!

Goodbye, Nettles. We are off for some hiking.

Lummi Bay, full o' fishing boats and future meals.

A fern-filled hike began.

Is it too steep?

Too eerie?

Too dangerous!

We continued on.

Glorious, fantastical greens!

And nettles were everywhere. Shall we have a spot o' nettle tea?

Tree fight!

This looks like Jack and the Beanstalk.

Teen little flowers everywhere for me to exclaim over.

And some more intriguing ones, too.

What is this? Edible? Reminds me of kale. Sautee?

And just what do we have in here? (Yes, I look like an old crazy witch.)

At the top of the trail, a glorious, sweeping view.

On both sides.

Windswept!

Who moved the island! Where is the donkey wheel?

Is it full of delicious fishies?

Pondering said donkey wheel. And then we hike back down.

To eat lunch at the Tap Root Cafe back at The Willows Inn.

Matt had a Classic BLT with Hemplers thick cut bacon and coleslaw, both of which he loved.

I had a burger, which was very overcooked and reminded me of a hotel burger. Alas. Back to Seattle we went, so sad to leave Lummi Island.

After a ferry and a drive to the city, time for dinner at Revel, which bills itself as serving "urban-style Korean comfort food." Hey, anything that comes with a lot of condiments is good in my book.

A pancake of pork belly, kimchi and bean sprouts was nice.

My favorite was the lamb, goat yogurt and cucumber dumpling.

A rice bowl of yummy short rib, sambal daikon and mustard greens.

Another rice bowl with Albacore tuna, fennel kimchi and escarole.

Done and done.
