north fork day 3

Our final morning in the North Fork began with some delicious salmon, dill and cream cheese.

And again those scrumptious scones.

As well as a mushroom and homemade ricotta tart.

Compressed melon, meaning it was compressed a la sous vide, which turns it a vibrant orange and has a very different texture than regular melon.

Then it was off to Kenny's Beach, which had a nice breeze going.

And was also nice and quiet...

...on both sides. I think this beach turned out to be our favorite one.

Back to the Lunch Truck for a bite to eat...

Matt had the North Fork-style Berkshire pulled pork roll with charred tomatillo-poblano sauce and pepper jack cheese. Saucy, spicy, sloppy goodness.

I had the Hartmann's artisan all-beef hot dog served on a toasted Blue Duck Bakery roll with bread & butter pickle relish, apple cider vinegar-glazed onion and housemade sauerkraut. Also sloppy goodness.

And for dessert, a deliciously chewy chocolate chip cookie was perfection. I tend to like them chewy and thin.

We sat outside in our lawn chairs and sipped our lemonade, savoring our last bit o' vacation time.

On our drive back, we stopped in at...

Briermere Farms.

Were we here for the peaches?

The corn, perhaps?

Or some pretty little lettuce heads?

No, we were here for the pies.

They didn't sell pies by the slice, so the logical solution was to buy a whole pie. We opted for blueberry because we couldn't travel with a cream pie. I suppose we could have just eaten the whole thing in the car.

Instead, when we got home, it was blueberry pie for a good portion of dinner. It was wonderful, with a flaky and buttery crust and blueberries that held together nicely. Pie. A perfect end to our jaunt.

Well, I feel refreshed after viewing your holiday! That pie looked wonderful, but I am drooling after the sauerkraut dog devilishness you had! They just don't do dogs here very well!
